The Caesars Sportsbook opened today at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan and Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott were on hand to place some of the first bets.
Today is the debut of sports betting in Maryland. In November 2020, Maryland residents voted in favor of Question 2 to allow sports betting in the state. Bill HB 940 made its way through the Maryland legislature and got Governor Larry Hogan’s signature on May 18th.
The Caesars Sportsbook is located on the first floor of the casino just to the right of the entrance. It will be adjacent to sports bar The Brew Brothers which will take over a space vacated by Guy Fieri’s Baltimore Kitchen & Bar. The Brew Brothers, where sports betters can watch all the different games on television, will open before the end of the year.
Until The Brew Brothers opens, many games will be played on the LED screens at Poe’s Next 14 Forty Lounge on the first floor.
Bill HB 940 allows for Baltimore’s stadiums to have sports wagering as well. Neither the Baltimore Ravens or Baltimore Orioles have announced any plans.
An additional 30 retail betting licenses are open to applicants, and 60 licenses will be granted for online sports books.
No additional retail sports betting locations have been announced at this time for Baltimore City.
